Google Forms Integration Guide
Integrate Google Forms with enterprise systems through its REST API, OAuth 2.0 authorization, paginated response retrieval, batch updates, and selected Google Cloud Pub/Sub notifications.
Google Forms integration options at a glance
Google Forms provides a REST API for creating forms, reading metadata and structure, updating form content, retrieving responses, and managing notification watches. Response listing supports pagination and timestamp filtering for incremental synchronization. Selected response and schema events can publish notifications through Google Cloud Pub/Sub, although these are not unrestricted direct HTTP webhooks. Batch updates support grouped form changes, while file-upload answers may require the Google Drive API to retrieve metadata or content. Martini can consume these APIs, authenticate with OAuth 2.0, orchestrate scheduled or event-driven workflows, transform Answers into canonical models, and deliver data to enterprise applications or databases.
Common Google Forms integration patterns

Authentication and security considerations
OAuth 2.0 and least privilege
Google Forms integrations generally use OAuth 2.0 with scopes selected for form content, read-only responses, and related Google Drive access where required. Martini stores credentials and refresh tokens in secured environment configuration rather than workflow definitions.
Workspace and file controls
Google Workspace administrators may restrict OAuth applications or require trusted application approval. Service-account use may require domain-wide delegation. Uploaded file access depends on Drive permissions, sharing policies, and the identity used for authorization.
Sensitive response data
- Restrict access to Google Cloud projects and Pub/Sub topics.
- Use least-privilege Forms and Drive scopes.
- Apply retention and redaction policies to response values and workflow logs.
- Protect personal, financial, health, or other sensitive information throughout processing.
Operational considerations for Google Forms integrations
Quotas and retries
Google APIs enforce project and user quotas. Handle HTTP 429 and transient 5xx responses with controlled exponential backoff, and avoid unnecessary polling by using notifications where appropriate.
Pagination and checkpoints
Response retrieval is paginated. Continue through all pages, use configurable page sizes, store a successful synchronization timestamp, and use a small overlap window with Response ID deduplication.
Watch lifecycle
Watch subscriptions expire and notifications may be duplicated or missed. Record watch identifiers and expiration times, renew before expiry, and run scheduled reconciliation against the Forms API.
Schema and file changes
Form owners can add, remove, or reorder Items and Questions. Prefer stable identifiers over labels or positions, version mappings, and treat missing or inaccessible Drive files as explicit exceptions.
Testing and observability
Test ordinary responses, changed schemas, duplicate notifications, pagination boundaries, missing permissions, quota responses, and quiz-specific behavior. Monitor workflow outcomes without logging sensitive Answer values unnecessarily.
Why use Martini instead of scripts or point-to-point integrations?
Reusable orchestration
Martini separates Google Forms retrieval, validation, mapping, business rules, target writes, and checkpoint management into maintainable workflows instead of embedding all behavior in a one-off script.
Flexible integration surface
Martini can consume the Google Forms REST API, participate in Pub/Sub-driven event designs, call Google Drive for authorized file retrieval, write to databases and applications, and expose a normalized REST API for downstream consumers.
Operational control
- Apply consistent retries, idempotency, pagination, and reconciliation patterns.
- Manage OAuth credentials and refresh tokens through secured configuration.
- Version mappings as Forms schemas evolve.
- Centralize validation, routing, error handling, and monitoring across integrations.
